The component – Shea (derived from Mangifolia tress) is generally found in Western Africa. Shea is a fruit which is good in taste. The large seeds in the fruit containing oil are used to extract oil thereby make Shea butter. The Shea butter is not at all expensive and mostly all cosmetic supply companies have this product on their shelf. You just need few tablespoons of Shea butter to make the Shea butter soap at home. If refrigerated properly, it lasts for more than two years. Not all Shea butters are similar as there are companies who make it using some chemical process. To get the best effect of the Shea butter soap, try to use the best all natural Shea butter.
Ingredients to make Shea butter soap –
1.) All-natural Castile (olive oil based) soap
2.)Distilled water
3.)2 tbsp all-natural, unprocessed Shea butter
4.) 1 tbsp finely ground almonds (This is optional but adds a nice scent to the soap)
5.) A grater
6.) A double boiler, or a small pot that is suited for placing inside a bigger pot
7.) Small plastic food containers for molds
8.) A mixing spoon
9.) A drying rack
Procedure to make Shea butter soap –
1. Take a double-broiler or big pot and boil water in it. You have to grate the castile soap till full two cups are obtained. The small pot or the inner double-boiler should be added to this with ½ cup of distilled water.
2. After this, let it melt in medium high heat. You have to stir it continuously till the soap gets completely melted and you feel it’s stringy when you take out the spoon.
3. Take it off from the heat.
4. The Shea butter and the almonds should now be added. Stir it well again till it is blended in a proper manner.
5. Take out the mixture and put them in small plastic food containers and let it get hardened, leaving it for several hours.
6. When it has become completely hard, it shall come out by itself.
7. Now they should be placed on the drying rack and you shall need 3 weeks for the soap to actually take form.
8. After 3 weeks, wrap them in a plastic for preserving them so that you can use it in your next bath.
